Full Moon Virgo/Libra

As we have probably heard this upcoming Full Moon is a "super-moon" meaning it's as closer to the earth than usual causing the moon to appear larger in the sky and cause higher than normal tides and perhaps increase likelyhood of earthquakes and other natural disasters. Solar Flare activity, which we have been having, also seems to correspond to earth changes so we have a do have a bit of a double-whammy on our hands. Remember though, there are about 5 "super moon's" a year and you have lived through lot's of "supermoons" before.

the moon will Appear to be quite large, especially as it rises over the horizon. The higher it appears in the sky the smaller it will appear. So if you want get a good look at the "Super Moon", go look at it comes up at 7:49PM PST.

The Solstice Full Moon also features the Sun's Conjunction to Uranus as it enters the first degree of Aries. Astrologically speaking, this is a wildcard as Uranus is the God/Planet associated with unpredictability, disruption, chaos as well as Genius, Liberation, collectives, Networks and the Promethean fire of Magic and Technology. Sudden reversals, unusual synchronicities or weird events are part of the Uranian influence at this time.

So as the transiting Sun conjuncts Uranus and "pours out the light into the moon" we could see some dramatic and critical events. That the Moon is at Perigee ("Supermoon") the amplitude of the energetic signature is especially high and emotions will be naturally be effected. Restlessness, nervousness and the feeling of being "Amped up" is common during these times. Sexual and psychic energy is high as well.

In terms of western Astrology it is the tense aspect between the slow moving planets Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries that is most associated with brakdown and restructuring of Civilization and it's infrastructure. Uranus was last in Aries during the Great depression and the build up to WWII, the Two clashing from summer 2010 through 2013 is about as dramatic and explosive as it gets. Pluto and Uranus were conjunct in the 1960's and the aspect they are making is a kind of Turning or maturation point of the energies and themes born during that time. The hippie ethos has percolated and matured and mainstream culture could see a new acceptance of what was once radical : home gardens, permaculture, psychedelics, values of indigenous cultures, hacky sacks.. ect

Neptune moving into it's home sign of Pisces on April 4th will be the "spiritual"element associated with these transformational times and will likely be expressed as people turning and REturning to spiritual traditions as the dominating paradigms come falling down. Uranus in Aries could also feature new technologies or scientific discoveries that give a fresh understanding to our spiritual traditions. Still others will cling to their passions and beliefs and may become more zealous and passionate about whatever paradigm they are attracted to. This could be the time of a subtle but powerful shift in consciousness so needed now.

Anyway, back to this powerful Full Moon,

With the Sun and Uranus Opposing the Moon on the Cusp of Virgo/Libra radical breakthroughs and disruption will be felt in areas of Health, routines, and service. Nervousness and restlessness can be a element of Virgo so naturally people are a bit worried about health issues right now especially with toxic particulates (Virgo rules particles as well).

With the Libra element added we can see issues highlighted in regards to relationships, balance and our sense of Justice. IMBALANCE can also be a theme and things, people, relationships, systems that require precarious balance may lose it, or there could be great effort in sustaining it.

One expression of the Virgo/Libra cusp is equal and fair distribution of important medicines and "particles" such as Iodine or the spread of Radiation in the atmosphere. Another expression my be the linkage of unlikely (uranus) friends (libra) at a time of crisis (Full Moon).

Remeber always, How all this aspects individuals will vary greatly depending on their natal chart.

This moon is powerful but the Eclipses coming this summer will be powerhouses as well and probably even more eventful and filled with dynamic tension and disruptive or transformational energy. There will be THREE back to back June 1st, June 15th and July 1st. Just a heads up on times to come.

Pisces New Moon

This new moon is relatively mild as it makes no significant aspects to the outer planets, unlike the past few Lunations however it is potentiated by 5 planets joined in Pisces underscoring it's "softness" but increasing the possibility to mislead or be mislead by illusion or fantasy. Mars is still nearby and Sextiles Pluto giving potential for claiming available power for spiritual pursuits or working behind the scenes. Mars is katabolic energy which breaks down as does Pluto, the higher octave of mars. Pluto in Capricorn is especially related to breaking down structures too rigid or unbending to the winds of fate. Together there is an opportunity to cleans and purify through surrender and perceive the unity behind the multiplicity of polarity consciousness. seeing the forest for the trees is easier now and staying grounded is more important as it is more easy to float away towards castles built in the air.

Neptune, ruler of Pisces is still in Aquarius and this new moon may herald insights into Neptune's passage into his oceanic home in April. Insights had now, through dream or revelation, may be a preview of what is to come later in the year.

This, and Neptune's transit of Pisces, will be a time where people will turn away from materiality and surrender to a higher form of being, which may be a form of religious devotion, mystical exploration or involvement with compassionate service of those who suffer. This will mark a turning point where technology and scientific discovery, along with enviromental/economic collapse pushes us to examine the big questions in life.

The stellium (collection of planets in the same sign) in Pisces make this a very watery lunation. Emotions and feelings may well trump intellect. With Saturn square venus aspecting the lunation by quincunx, there could be tensions between ideals and expectations that are challenging to incorperate with our deep feelings at the time and ideals (Pisces) may not mesh with expectations and duties (Venus, Saturn).

Sphynx Moon - Full Moon Leo/Virgo Cusp

The age of Aquarius is said to be an age of plurality, collectivism and liberty through technology and new ideas, a theme that is certainly apparent through the Internet and social networking.

However each age has a hidden counterpart, an additional component that arises from the polarity of each sign. In the age of Pisces we also saw an occulted or hidden age of Virgo. As the archetype of the sacrificed God came to power and dominated the consciousness field of humanity, another more subtle age also reigned, the Age of Virgo or the Virgin. Suppressed by the church, the sacred feminine in the form of the black Madonna and concubine to Jesus Christ flourished in secret.

Each age has a counterpart. The age of Aquarius is also the Age of Leo and the age of the SUN. Co-current with the group consciousness of the internet and discoveries of new physics that we are all interconnected, is the self-centered and proud Leonic current apparent in "MYspace" and the multiplicity of spotlights that is the internet and social networking. "in the future everyone will be famous for 15 minuets" Andy Warhol, in his prescience, claimed. Fame. and everybody gets some.

Sphynx Moon

The degrees between Leo and Virgo are said to be the degree of the Sphynx as they occupy the point between the Lion and the Virgin, two component parts in the Sphynx of Giza which is the body of a Lion and the head of a Human.

The mythic archetype of the Sphyx is an archetype of Elemental wholeness, more than just Beast (fire) and Man (air). A sphynx was said to be part Lion, part eagle, part bull and part human. It is a composite of the cherubs of apocalyptic visions in the bible which are also the animals of the fixed signs of the zodiac, each of the fixed signs are where the sun rests in it's seasonal peak. Taurus the Bull is the height of spring. Leo the lion of summer, Scorpio the eagle of Fall and Aquarius the Human of winter. Each element is not simply the gross (or essential) substance of materiality but also the emotional components of the human condition.

Earth - sensiousness and the ability to maintain form
Water - Emotionality and the ability to reflect
FIre - Energy also called "intuition" by Jung
Air - Mentation and the ability to ideate

all four together allow us to imagine which is essentiall the creative act and the power of a God. The composite of these are Akasha or spirit, the 5th element. However the 4 do not make the 5th, rather the 5th like a prism, makes the 4.

The elements also have their shadows

Earth - avarice and stubborness
Water - sadness
Fire - anger
Air - caprice

when the elemental parts of the self are brought to balance the 5th elemental creature is the Sphynx, keeper of the myteries of the universe.

Use this time to contemplate your own elemental fullness and cultivate awareness of what you need to nurture and what you need to reduce to come to a place of equanimity and stillness, and to be like the sphynx herself, resting in the fullness of her secret.

New Moon Aquarius - Inventing new realities

The yearly New Moon in Aquarius is a time where the energies of the new age are released and activated within our personal lives and the mundane world at large. Depending on how the Lunation is aspected there will be relative ease or friction in the expression of the principals cognate to Aquarius: Revolution, evolution, and Ideals associated with Liberty, freedom of experimentation and the open road to the stars that is our future.

Although Aquarius is the "water bearer", it is an air sign and the element of Air corresponds to ideas and mental constructs. The glyph of Aquarius appears to be wavy lines of water but could also be interpreted, perhaps more correctly, as waves of air. During this time we are stirred by our ideas and ideals rather than emotions and sentiment (water), need for action, stimulation and change (fire) or desire for stasis, fixity and stability(earth).

To further illustrate and add to this concept, Take the example of the process of Invention, an Aquarian concept.

First a mental construct comes to the mind. Through reflection and memory (water) we are able to refine the idea until our Will (fire) brings the creation into manifest reality (earth). Before we can bring an idea into the manifest we must mold it in the substance of imagination and before we can receive inspiration (literally in-breath) we must make ourselves still and like an empty vessel.

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." - Albert Einstein, North Node Aquarius

During this time we are open to inspiration that will allow us to rise above the consciousness that created the problems and challenges we face.

Mars will be conjunct the sun and opposite the moon so it will be highly energetic and full of vigor unlike most new moons, which can be a bit of a lull before the moon waxes to it's fullness.

Saturn will trine Mars and actions now are blessed with Saturn's "stickyness" and potential for longevity, stability and measured output. Although this lunation contains themes of "taking action" based on needs of freedom, the usual hastiness of Mars may be diminished with this aspect active.

Although the trine is associated with ease, Saturn is still known as the Lord of the scythe and it may be that you or a loved one is able to sever ties with a relationship that has run it's course. Apparent Endings may be easier than apparent beginnings at this time, depending on your situation.

Endings and romantic transitions are underscored by a tense T-square between Uranus, Venus and retrograde Juno the asteroid of Marriage and committed relationships.

Relationships and marriages may come to an impass or transformitive point.

Venus in Sagittarius wants to be free to explore and taste the banquet of human life. Uranus demands liberty to do what t pleases and the freedom to experiment. Juno wants stability and commitment. These three planets appear to be arguing for control and venus and uranus are both semisquaring the New Moon, a sign of friction, so whatever is started at this new moon may require us to adjust our relationship status perhaps allowing for more freedom or experimentation.

The fixity of Aquarius may also slow impulsiveness although, on the flipside, it may mire us in our rigid ideals and ways of doing things.

Aquarius as a fixed sign is a bit counterintuitive. Aquarius is the sign of transformation and metamorphosis and entry into the future. but Fixed signs are dogmatic at times in their ways of expressing and embodying their archetypal spirit, so to speak. This can be illustrated in the archetypal Anarcho-atheist who is ( or becomes) as dogmatic and rigid as the structues and normative values she/he opposes. For instance, pictiure a masked, black clad anarchist punk Hurling a molotov cocktail at police over the injustice of violence.

Aquarius is an air sign but Uranus is the only planet in a water sign at the time of this New Moon and the driving force of change and liberty at this time may be emotional rather than the intellectual, which is the field of consciousness at work in aquarius. Emotions we have discarded or neglected may come to the surface with suddeness or out-of-the-blue. Again, with Mars so tight in the lunation, we may feel urgency to make changes within our relationships based on these emotional revelations.

FULL MOON In Cancer / Leo Cusp

The power of emotion and compassion for family and the greater family of humanity will cross with the warmth and magnanimity of the solarly light of Leo. Following the heart and the gut will be in the field of our collective awareness and as the Sun begins to chase mars through Aquarius there will be a an urgency around collectives and families to work together for the sake of liberation, transformation and progress.

Impatience and urgency are keywords for mars and when aspected in a tense opposition with the full moon you can expect the usual psychic fullness of the lunation to be especially potent. In Aquarius it may manifest as being pushed to take action with a group it could just as likely be you who is doing the pushing, depending on how the lunation aspects you and how you deal with Martian and Aquarian energies.

The lunation will be favorably aspecting the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in the last degrees of Pisces so we can expect the lunation to shed light on the ongoing cultural shift into a new age and awakening to the greater reality of connectedness and unity of consciousness. Some themes we may see active at this time could be :The BP Oil spill catastrophy or similar natural disasters (-or fear of them), Wikileaks, UFO sightings, facebook and online-culture could well be features in the news again. Behind the scenes, as always in these days of media-theater, much is happening and at great speed.

Because the lunation is aspecting mars, the "lone gunman" phenomenon in the news of late could continue to be a theme either, through more shootings or enactment of new gun laws and, naturally, a backlash from pro-gun rights activists. The tragedy and atrocities like this bring us closer to the awareness and understanding of our unity and connectedness, sometimes more so than liberating spiritual experiences. The lone gunman theme (and Government reaction) activated during these times will continue as the rebel Uranus enters war-God Aries later this spring.

This is somewhat of a "blue moon" as both this and that last full moon were in the sign of Cancer, the former in the first degrees and this one in the last. Because the moons are bookends of sorts we may see the culmination of issues started around the last moon in december. Issues surround work-home dynamics are made complex with the sun and moon also being on the cusp of Leo/Aquarius respectively. Juggling the dynamics of this quaternary archetypes will be challenging and the answers we seek now will likely have equally complex solutions. Leo (sun, ego, warmth, singularity) will need to be balanced with Aquarius (colectivity, coolness, detachment, technology, evolution).

Cancer is the sign that is associated with familial bonding, emotional security and the nurturing impulse of the mother archetype that exists in all of us, to some degree, even if inhibited by repressive elements in the birth chart -it is still there, ready to be awakened as the psyche matures.

Knee-jerk reactivity, thoughtless reflex and seeking security over liberty are shadow qualities to be aware of if we are to act with consciousness and the fullness of our being. Look out into your environment to see both the shadow and light of this Lunation expressing itself in those around you and be as present and compassionate as possible to avoid getting sucked into the shadows of unconsciousness yourself.

Use this time to get in touch with your deepest feelings and emotional needs as tensions and crisis, common during full Moons, push that which is lurking in the depths of the nightside to come to the light of day.

Mercury in Capricorn : Serious Buisness

Mercury re-enters Capricorn where it went Retrogade December 11th and the focus will return to serious business that was left unfinished when it went retrograde just before the holiday season. Here in Capricorn structure, formality, focus and ability to think linearly and hierarchically are strengths, rigidity, inflexibility and inability to intuit subtlety and think abstractly are it's pitfalls.

Messenger Mercury will return to the point where it went retrograde on Jan 18 where It conjuncts Pluto. Some astrologers believe that the retrograde period actually isn't over until it goes direct and returns to the degree it went retrograde. Of this I am not really convinced and, as an aside, it seems a large part of the fear around mercury retrograde is self induced through the consciousness of those who observe it's passage with fear or particular expectation. Either way, it's conjunction to Pluto at the stationary point could be useful to those who are capable of harnessing it's potent influence.

People with Natal Mercury in Capricorn have an ability to think practically and coherently although they may be less intuitive than a water sign such as Pisces. They may also have a serious tone to their voice with steady cadence and meter. Despite the melancholic nature of Capricorn the sign is capable of whit and humor as well, although it nature tends to be dry and sardonic.

Mercury meets Pluto : Lord of the underworld, Lord of wealth

Pluto (Greek Hades) is the God of the Dead and all that is invisible and secret. This includes both power, influence and instinct, powers that are impossible to see or touch, like Pluto himself with his cap of invisibility that cloaked the wearer with a shroud of darkness. Pluto is also the God of the hidden wealth of the deep earth, from the fertile soil which nourishes seeds to their fullness to the mined wealth of gold, silver and other precious metals, metals that became the source for paper currency and, now, electronic currency that runs our civilization.

Pluton, an epithet for Pluto, means "rich one or giver of wealth". Plutocrat, a term in common parlance these days is used as a moniker for those shaded individuals who hold a heavy influence on world affairs through their accumulation of resources and ability to rule from a relative zone of secrecy. Plutocracy (rule by wealth) and Cryptocracy (rule by secrecy) are no longer the ravings of paranoids but common knowledge in these edge times, at least since George W Bush instituted a "shadow Government" (his term) back in the early days after 9/11. The real "shadow Government" however, probably goes back much farther than the ealy 00s.

In depth psychology the "Shadow" is the rejected contents of our psyche that do not easily fit into civilized society. Deep animal instincts, abilities and urges lurk beyond the threshold of our conscious awareness, a consciousness that is generally geared (and programmed) to obey the common law of society and it's arbitrary authorities.

However, These shadow qualities, though fearful and sometimes destructive, are also a wellspring of gifts, power and, if we are able to reunite with it, wholeness; the goal of all religion. But facing and reuniting with the shadow is anything but easy as the shadow contains within it our deepest fears and most dangerous urges.

Another epithet for Pluto being Eubuleus or "well-guessing" which is probably where get the idea of the archetypal devil playing guessing games with mortals ala the Rolling Stones lyric: "I'm pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name". In this vein we see Pluto as being a source of deep knowing and intuitive abilities. Although Moon and Neptune are also associated with intuition, Pluto is known for a kind of dark, thoughtless knowing or instinct and plutonic and/or scorpionic individuals are known for being shrewd and instinctual however they often see the worst or "lowest" of things, unlike Neptune which can see the world through rose-colored glasses.

JAN 17 - Mercury Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn

Mind meets Depth and the personal and collective focus will again turn to secrets and the hidden hands of power. As well, our personal focus will turn to the hidden drives and deep elemental urges that lie hidden on the outskirts of our awareness. How personally this will effect you depends on your own chart: how this conjunction aspects your planets and how you deal with Mercural and Plutonic energies and themes.

Planets in 4-6 degrees of Earth signs may feel an intuitive pull of this aspect and an empowering thrust of quick yet penetrating wit or mental focus, while those with 4-6 degrees of the cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra may be presented with unwelcome revelations or difficult conversations or tasks that require deep thinking, processing or decisions of some sort.

This occurs just a few days before the full Moon and revelations or decisions made now may well be a part of the energetic fullness and tensions typical of the full moon. With Mars in the early degrees of Aquarius at the time of the full moon, we will be feeling a push to break out of limiting patterns, relationships and situations based on revelations, deep analysis and awakenings to cold, hard reality.

Mercury and Pluto together is perfect for research, therapy, focus, digging up secrets and searching for treasures hidden beneath visible. Wikileaks and revelations of illegal and unethical practices by governments will continue to be a top story, as if could simply go away at this point, and we may see more cable leaks at this time.

Venus In Sagittarius

Venus finally ends her extended sojourn through the underworld and enters the wide expanse that is the Hunting grounds of Sagittarius. Our desires will be inflamed with the will to explore and be free, quite a step away from the fixity and intensity of Scorpio. People from different cultures, different accents or appearances will appeal to us, especially if we feel they can enlarge our world and help us feel in touch with greater more exotic things.

In Scorpio the love theme is generally about depth and intensity of authentic experience, whereas in Sagittarius, it is about breadth and joy of life's adventure and people with Venus here natally are known for their wanderlust and impulsiveness in matters of the heart. Often this wanderlust is tempered with worldliness and wisdom as the native explores and experiences different types of people and relationships. Eventually in maturity the native will transmute the more reckless elements into a kind of ethic and personal code of conduct although their appetite will always be strong as Jupiter, sag's ruler, loves to have a good time. Venus in Sagittarius (or aspecting Jupiter) loves pleasure in abundance to the point to excess and debauch. More IS better to them!

Dates to watch:

People with sun, moon, Venus or mars in fire signs will experience the warm glance of Venus at some point. Love, friendship and social situations will go unusually well . Be extra careful on Jan 5th, a day after the powerful Capricorn eclipse, when Venus Squares Neptune, the planet of illusion, while Trine Jupiter and Uranus, both planets that have a reputation of Leaping before looking.

The square to Neptune will fog our perceptions making us dreamy and perhaps seeing the world, or a person, with rose-colored glasses. Illusions, being drunk with desire and flights of fantasy are the name of the game when Venus is in a hard aspect to Neptune.

This is all exaggerated with it's Trine to Jupiter/Uranus which will enlarge our desire for freedom, spontaneity and novelty. The feeling of buoyancy and will to action will be strong. Be very careful making promises, buying luxury items or hopping into or breaking out of relationships from Jan 3-5th especially if your birthday is Nov 17-20 or if you know you have other planets at 27-28 Degrees Scorpio.
